On the new Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC)
It was announced that 21 persons — Meechai Ruchupan, Kirana Sumawong, Juree Wichitwathakarn, Chartchai Na Chiang Mai, Thanawat Sangthong, Thitiphan Chuaboonchai, Thienchai Na Nakorn, Norachit Singhaseni, Gen. Niwat Sripen, Pakorn Nilprapunt, Prapan Naigowit, Pattara Khampitak, Pummarat Thaksadipong, Maj. Gen. Veera Rojanawas, Supachai Yawaprapas, Suphot Khaimuk, Amorn Wanichwiwat, Apichart Sukhagghanont, Udom Ratta-amarit, Atchaporn Jarujinda, and Gen. Atthaporn Charoenpanich — would become members of the new Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC). Together they will draft a new constitution for the dictatorial regime of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
The New Democracy Movement - NDM sees the actions of the aforementioned 21 persons as associating with the junta's plan to create dictatorial rules to dominate Thai society in the long run. The essence of the new constitution drafted by these 21 persons will not be different from the previous one. Organs representing the people will be weakened and undermined while organs not connected to the people will be given enormous power. If the constitution drafted by these 21 persons becomes effective, it will plant the dictator's thought deep inside Thai political system. The country will be under a state of permanent coup d'état, and democracy will be difficult to be restored.
Furthermore, the actions of these 21 persons are nourishing the dictatorship, giving it room to grow in the legal system, turning abomination into legitimacy. When a society's fundamental rules are dictatorial, they will foster people in that society to maintain dictatorial culture and values. From that point onwards, acts of violence will undoubtedly be used to destroy those who think differently. The same thing happened on this day 39 years ago, when a group of people incited by dictatorial thought massacred their fellow people. That's why the actions of these 21 persons must be completely opposed by those who believe in democracy.
The bodies laid down in front of the Government House today are bodies of democracy, killed in coups d'état by dictatorial regimes 12 times in total. Behind those bodies are grievances of the people who were killed without guilt, whose rights and liberties were violated, whose ways of life was troubled, who could not ask for accountabilities from dictatorial governments. The New Democracy Movement uses those bodies to condemn these 21 persons who use their own knowledge and skills to serve the dictatorship at the expense of the people.
The New Democracy Movement asks these 21 persons to commit their sins to memory, and to not shy away from telling the future generations that once in history you dragged the country and its people into the abyss of dictatorship by your own hands.
